NA unanimously passes resolution India’s over suspension of IWT

ISLAMABAD:  National Assembly of Pakistan has unanimously passed a resolution condemning India’s illegal and unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT).

The resolution calls upon the government to take immediate and effective measures to counter India’s unlawful actions. It emphasizes that any violation of international agreements, especially those concerning shared water resources, poses a serious threat to regional stability and must be addressed with urgency.

Federal Minister for Water Resources, Moeen Wattoo, presented the resolution, emphasizing that the Indus Waters Treaty is Pakistan’s lifeline and cannot be unilaterally terminated by India under any circumstances.

The resolution called on the government to take concrete steps to counter India’s unlawful actions.

On the other hand, the National Assembly also approved the Grade Capital Power Plants Levi Amendment Bill.

Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervez Malik says that the levy was needed under the IMF program, the levy would be phased and the first would be 5 % then 10 % and 20 %.

Earlier, National Assembly Standing Committee on Petroleum Division had recommended the Off the Grid (Captive Power Plants) Levy Bill, 2025 for passage in the National Assembly.

The Committee’s 9th meeting, chaired by Syed Mustafa Mehmood, MNA, was held at the Parliament House.

Opening the session, the Chair extended congratulations to all attendees in light of recent national developments and commended the Armed Forces of Pakistan for their professional handling of sensitive issues with India.

He expressed full support for the military and lauded their dedication to safeguarding national interests.
