General Mirza warns war over water will engulf entire region

General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Pakistan’s top military chief recently issued a strong warning in Singapore. He stated that a war over water resources could lead to a major crisis, engulfing the entire region. He made it clear that stopping Pakistan’s rightful share of water would be considered an act of open warfare.
During a major security meeting known as the “Shangri-La Dialogue Summit,” General Mirza pointed out that if the Indus Waters Treaty an international agreement governing water sharing is broken, it would be a serious violation of global rules. He also highlighted that recent incidents, such as the one in Pahalgam have increased the chances of conflict, which could ultimately affect everyone in the area.
General Mirza strongly spoke against using water as a weapon. He emphasized that any delay or change in the flow of water meant for Pakistan would be seen as an act of war. He stressed that if this water issue isn’t handled well, tensions could quickly get out of control. This kind of tension, he explained, would badly hurt development, trade, and the lives of 1.5 billion people in the region.
