TEHRAN: Iran has announced new appointments to its top military leadership following the martyrdom of key commanders in Israeli airstrikes earlier on Friday.

According to Iranian state media, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has temporarily appointed General Habibollah Sayyari as the Acting Commander of Iran’s Armed Forces.

In a separate decree, General Ahmad Vahidi has been named the new Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

These appointments follow the deaths of Major General Mohammad Bagheri, Chief of the Armed Forces, and Major General Hossein Salami, head of the IRGC, who were both martyred in Israeli strikes early Friday morning.

The changes come amid rising tensions and widespread Iranian vows of retaliation against Israel.

Earlier, Israeli airstrikes on Iran have resulted in the martyrdom of Major General Hossein Salami, Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

According to international news agencies, dozens of airstrikes were carried out early Friday, including several in the northeastern districts of Tehran, where loud explosions were heard and plumes of smoke were seen rising from various locations.

Iranian state television confirmed that the IRGC’s central headquarters in Tehran was among the targets struck by Israeli forces. The attack reportedly caused significant damage and further intensified calls for retaliation from Iranian leadership.
