Over 30 minor earthquakes recorded in Karachi since June 1st

KARACHI: The Meteorological Department reported that Karachi experienced more earthquake tremors this morning, continuing a recent trend of seismic activity in the city.

The first tremor was recorded at 4:46 AM, measuring 2.7 in magnitude. It was quite shallow, with a depth of just 2 kilometers, and its center was located about 20 kilometers south of Defence. A second tremor followed at 7:58 AM, this one slightly weaker at 1.8 magnitude and deeper at 8 kilometers, centered roughly 7 kilometers northwest of Malir.

Chief Meteorologist Amir Haider Laghari provided an update on the situation, revealing that a total of 32 earthquake tremors have been felt in Karachi since June 1st. He clarified that all these quakes have been of minor intensity, with magnitudes ranging from a low of 1.5 to a high of 3.6.

Amir Haider Laghari added that the very last tremor was recorded today at 8:32 AM, measuring 1.5 in magnitude. The depths of these recent quakes have varied significantly, from 2 kilometers all the way down to 188 kilometers, with reports coming from various areas including Quaid Abad, Gadap, Malir, DHA, and Korangi. Residents are advised to remain calm but aware of the ongoing seismic activity
