Punjab announces 90-day remission for prisoners on Eid

LAHORE: The Punjab Home Department has issued a notification granting special remission to prisoners across the province in connection with Eid-ul-Azha.

According to the official notification, inmates in provincial jails have been granted a 90-day special remission in their sentences.

The remission has been granted under Rule 216 of the Pakistan Prison Rules, 1978. As per jail regulations, the remission applies only to eligible categories of prisoners. The notification states that approximately 450 inmates will benefit from this special relief.

Under the notification, 270 prisoners will be released from the jails of Punjab and celebrate Eid with the family, but terrorists, sectarianism, espionage, rebellion, anti -state activity, murder, adultery, drug trafficking, robbery and kidnapping are not get relief.

In addition, financial embezzlement, convicted prisoner for damaging the national treasury and a prisoner in violation of prison laws within a year, will not benefit from pardon.
