KARACHI: The authorities successfully prevented a child marriage in the Hijrat Colony area, where a 13-year-old girl was reportedly being forced into matrimony.

The Women and Child Protection Cell, in coordination with local police, arrested both the bride’s uncle and the groom. A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered at the Civil Lines Police Station on behalf of the state.

The case has been filed under the Sindh Child Marriage Restraint Act and other relevant sections pertaining to incitement to marriage.

According to police, the minor girl had lost her father and was residing at her uncle’s home, where the marriage was being arranged.
