WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has instructed the White House administration to urgently arrange a meeting with Iranian officials.

According to reports by American media citing informed sources, the directive follows heightened tensions in the region, with one US television network claiming that Trump has also called an emergency meeting of the National Security Council.

The president is reportedly expected to cut short his visit to Canada to chair the meeting, which will be held in the White House Situation Room.

Earlier, President Trump had warned that if “Iran did not agree to a nuclear deal, “something will definitely happen.”

Earlier, US President Donald Trump will not sign the G7 summit communiqué aimed at easing tensions between Israel and Iran.

According to an American official cited by international news agencies, draft statement, prepared at the G7 summit in Canada, includes an appeal for de-escalation in the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict.

It also reaffirms that Iran must never be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons and emphasizes Israel’s right to self-defense.

In addition, the communiqué pledges to uphold stability in global energy markets and broader economic sectors amid rising regional tensions.

In a conversation with the British Prime Minister of the G7 meeting, Trump said that Iran should sign the deal, making sure that Iran does not have nuclear weapons.
