WASHINGTON: Tami Pigott, the Deputy Spokesperson for the US Department of State, held a press conference today addressing several key international issues.

Pigott emphasized that decisions regarding travel restrictions are solely aimed at ensuring the safety of American citizens. She explained that the US is actively tightening screening procedures for all individuals entering the country. Furthermore, the State Department is in communication with nations currently under travel restrictions to help them improve their own screening processes.

Shifting to foreign policy, Pigott unequivocally stated that the United States “stands with Israel” at this time. She also sent a clear message to Iran, asserting that the US “will not allow” them to acquire nuclear weapons.

Regarding the conflict in Eastern Europe, Pigott reiterated President Trump’s firm stance that the Ukraine-Russia war “must now stop.” She concluded by stating that the US is keen to see “direct talks between Russia and Ukraine” commence.
