Karachi: The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will hold a key meeting in Karachi today (Saturday, August 24, 2025) to sight the crescent for the Islamic month of Rabi-ul-Awwal 1447 AH.

The main session of the committee will convene after Asr prayers at the Pakistan Meteorological Department office in Karachi. The meeting will be chaired by the committee’s chairman, Maulana Syed Abdul Khabir Azad.

Representatives from the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Meteorological Department, SUPARCO, and the Ministry of Science and Technology will also attend.

In addition, zonal Ruet-e-Hilal committee meetings will be held simultaneously in major cities across the country, including Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar, and Quetta. Based on testimonies received from these regions, the final decision regarding the moon sighting will be made.

The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) has predicted strong chances of moon visibility today, August 24. According to SUPARCO, there will be approximately a 45-minute time gap between sunset and moonset in coastal areas — a favorable condition for moon sighting.

If the moon is sighted today, the first day of Rabi-ul-Awwal will fall on August 25, 2025. Consequently, Eid Milad-un-Nabi ﷺ — observed on the 12th of Rabi-ul-Awwal — will be celebrated on Friday, September 5, 2025.

The final announcement regarding the moon sighting will be made tonight by Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad after the conclusion of the committee’s meeting.
