Iran signals willingness to resume ‘Fair’ nuclear talks if west shows goodwill

Tehran: Iran is prepared to return to the negotiating table over its nuclear program, provided that Western nations demonstrate “seriousness and goodwill,” according to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

In a letter addressed to European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, Araghchi emphasized that Iran remains open to “fair and balanced diplomatic negotiations” concerning its nuclear activities. However, he warned that any moves that undermine trust—such as the re-imposition of sanctions—could derail diplomatic progress.

The comments came just hours after France, Germany, and the United Kingdom invoked a mechanism to trigger the reimposition of United Nations “snapback” sanctions on Iran, a move Tehran has strongly rejected.

“The three European countries have no legal authority to initiate automatic sanctions against Iran,” Araghchi asserted in the letter, calling the step unjustified and counterproductive to ongoing diplomatic efforts.

Despite the tensions, Iran has reportedly held recent rounds of talks with the same European powers—France, Germany, and the UK—indicating a possible opening for a new nuclear agreement. Iranian officials have signaled that these talks could continue, but only under conditions that ensure mutual respect and a genuine commitment to diplomacy.
