LAHORE: The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has forecast the start of a new monsoon spell across the country and issued an alert.

According to details, the PDMA has warned of possible flooding in the upper regions from August 13 due to the upcoming monsoon rains and an expected rise in water levels in the Sutlej River and its tributaries.

The authority stated that water levels in the Sutlej could increase due to heavy rains and the release of water from upstream reservoirs, with a significant surge expected at Ganda Singh.

DG Irfan Ali Kathia said the water level in Indian dams last week increased dramatically. The Bhakra Dam on the Sutlej River has filled 61 %, Pong Dam 76 % and Thane Dam 64 %.

The PDMA has directed the Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners across the Punjab to complete all arrangements in advance according to the directions of the Chief Minister Punjab.
