Two siblings killed in Karachi, mob torches seven dumpers

Motorcycle crash kills two siblings in Federal B Area Karachi

Karachi: In the late hours between Saturday and Sunday a speeding dumper truck rammed into a motorcycle in Federal B Area, killing two siblings on the spot.

The victims were identified as 14-year-old Ahmed Raza and 22-year-old Mahnoor. Their father, 47-year-old Shakir, who was riding the motorcycle, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital.

According to rescue sources, the family was on their way home to Malir when the accident took place on Rashid Minhas Road. The bodies of the deceased were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. A large contingent of police and Rangers arrived at the scene following the incident.

The tragic news sparked outrage in the local community. Enraged residents set seven dumper trucks on fire. Police later conducted operations in different areas and detained 10 individuals allegedly involved in setting the trucks ablaze.

Speaking to the media, the uncle of the deceased siblings, Zakir, shared that Mahnoor was set to be married next month and that the family had been collecting items for her dowry. He added that Shakir, the father, is currently admitted to Jinnah Hospital with severe brain injuries.

The accident sparked a protest on the Super Highway, resulting in long queues of vehicles and major traffic disruption.

So far this year, at least 550 people have lost their lives in road accidents involving speeding vehicles across Karachi in just 222 days. Among the deceased were 427 men, 52 women, and 71 children.
