MULTAN: A section of the M-5 Motorway near Jalalpur Pirwala has been washed away by floodwaters, officials confirmed on Saturday.

According to the Chief Police Officer (CPO) Multan, the eastern portion of the motorway collapsed after a breach caused by floodwater. He added that earlier, the western portion of the same motorway had also been swept away by flooding.

Motorway Police and National Highway Authority (NHA) teams, along with heavy machinery, are present at the site to manage the situation and carry out emergency measures.

He said that the river Sutlej water on the motorway is flowing towards the Chenab River with severe flow, stones are being put in the crack to reduce the flow of water.

A spokesman for the motorway police said that the motorway M5 is closed due to floods. The travelers heading from Multan to Sukkur have been advised to use alternative routes.

Similarly, vehicles traveling from Sukkur towards Multan can exit the M-5 at Uch Sharif Interchange, continue via the National Highway, and rejoin the motorway at Shershah Interchange.

Motorway Police and National Highway Authority (NHA) teams, along with heavy machinery, are present at the site to manage the situation and assist travelers.
