Documentary honoring police bravery in PSX attack premieres in Karachi

KARACHI: A documentary titled “The Police Story”, highlighting the bravery and role of police officers during the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) terror attack, premiered at a local cinema in Karachi.
According to reports, Inspector General of Sindh Police Ghulam Nabi Memon, Additional IGs, DIGs, and other senior police officials attended the premiere. The focus of the event remained on the three heroic policemen who courageously confronted terrorists during the PSX assault.
The Pakistan Stock Exchange came under attack on June 29, 2020, when four armed assailants arrived in a vehicle and opened fire at the main entrance in an attempt to storm the building. Police responded swiftly, eliminating all four attackers within just eight minutes, preventing a major tragedy.
The incident, though swiftly contained, claimed the lives of one police officer and three security guards, while several others sustained injuries.
The documentary provides a gripping recreation of the attack, focusing on the exceptional bravery of Constable Rafiq, who was stationed at the main gate. With no immediate cover, Rafiq dropped to the ground and feigned death, allowing him to strike with deadly accuracy as the first terrorist entered killing him with a single headshot. Moments later, he neutralized another attacker.
The remaining two assailants were gunned down by Constables Muhammad Saleem and Khalil, whose timely action prevented a potential mass-casualty event.
Police leadership applauds efforts:
Speaking at the event, IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon praised the police’s swift response and commended the filmmakers for portraying the incident with authenticity.
“These officers eliminated the terrorists in minutes, saving the nation from a major tragedy,” IG Memon said. “I am grateful to the team behind this documentary for highlighting the true face of our police force.”
He noted that while negative narratives often overshadow the police’s achievements, productions like The Police Story serve as an important reminder of the risks officers take daily.
Voices of the heroes:
All three constables featured in the documentary were present at the premiere and received a standing ovation from the audience. Speaking about the events of that day, the officers said:
“At that moment, our only thought was the safety of the country. We had no concern for ourselves only that no innocent life should be lost.”
Their calm composure and humility resonated with attendees, many of whom were visibly moved by their testimonies.
Filmmaker’s vision:
Syed Atif Ali, Director of Rawa Documentaries Film Productions, said the purpose of the documentary is to bring to light the sacrifices and courage of the country’s law enforcement.
“People need to know the reality that these officers put their lives on the line so the rest of us can live in peace,” he said.
The film is expected to be screened at educational institutions and police academies, aiming to inspire a new generation with stories of courage, duty, and patriotism.
