Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia Sheikh Abdul-Aziz Al Sheikh passes away
RIYADH: Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al Sheikh, the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia and one of the most prominent Islamic scholars in the Muslim world, has passed away, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) confirmed in an official statement.
According to the statement, his funeral prayer will be held today after the Asr prayer at Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh. His passing marks a significant loss for both the Kingdom and the wider Muslim ummah.
Sheikh Abdul-Aziz served as the Grand Mufti for many years and held the position of President of the Council of Senior Scholars. He was widely known for his deep knowledge, religious leadership, and service to Islam throughout his life.
“The death of Sheikh Abdul-Aziz is a great loss for the Islamic world,” the SPA stated. “He devoted his life to Islamic scholarship, spreading religious knowledge, and guiding Muslims according to the teachings of the Qur’an and Sunnah.”
Appointed as Grand Mufti in 1999, Sheikh Abdul-Aziz was a leading voice in religious affairs in Saudi Arabia. His fatwas, sermons, and scholarly works shaped religious thought across the Muslim world for decades.
Condolences have poured in from religious leaders, scholars, and officials globally, remembering him as a man of wisdom, humility, and lifelong dedication to the service of Islam.
