Karachi witness alarming surge in murder, kidnapping cases

KARACHI: The Karachi is witnessing an alarming surge in violent crime this year, with murder, attempted murder, and kidnapping cases reported in alarming numbers across the city.

According to official data, 385 murder cases have been registered in 2025 so far. The month-wise breakdown shows 55 cases in January, 40 in February, 44 in March, 53 in April, 65 in May, 33 in June, 49 in July, and 46 in August.

The city also witnessed 2,565 cases of kidnapping during the same period. These included 288 in January, 304 in February, 238 in March, 333 in April, 388 in May, 320 in June, 352 in July, and 342 in August.

In addition, 27 cases of kidnapping for ransom were reported, with the highest number occurring in May (7 cases). Other months recorded between 1 and 5 cases each.

Child abduction also emerged as a significant concern, with 346 cases registered this year. Month-wise figures show 29 incidents in January, 33 in February, 28 in March, 35 in April, 52 in May, 41 in June, 74 in July, and 54 in August.

The alarming figures highlight the ongoing challenges faced by Karachi’s law enforcement authorities in curbing violent crime and ensuring public safety.
