Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to complete an emergency assessment of the damage caused by recent floods across the country.

The prime minister issued the directive during a high-level review meeting on the flood situation and ongoing relief efforts, held immediately after his address to the UN General Assembly in New York.He also instructed relevant departments to accelerate relief and rehabilitation operations for affected communities.

Addressing the meeting, Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed his government’s commitment to stand by the flood-affected people, declaring, “We will not rest until every person in the flood-hit regions is rehabilitated.”

He said Pakistan’s voice on the adverse impacts of climate change had been conveyed to the world at the UNGA, emphasizing that developing nations like Pakistan continue to suffer disproportionately from climate-induced natural disasters.

The Prime Minister directed the Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal to convene a strict monitoring and review of the operations of aid and the operations. He also directed the Chairman NDMA to provide full support to the provinces and PDMEs.

Directing to complete an emergency estimate of the damage in the flood -hit areas, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said that after the flood, the damage to the crops and infrastructure should be completed soon so that the planning for relief operations can be facilitated.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the National Highway Authority (NHA) to expedite restoration work on the section of the M-5 Motorway damaged by recent flooding from the Sutlej River.

He directed the Secretary Communications and Chairman NHA to review the damage to the affected area of ​​M5 and ordered the health officials to take all necessary steps to prevent water from spreading diseases.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said that special measures should also be taken for the cultivation of appropriate crops in the flooded areas.
