BAHAWALNAGAR: A young man fell into the River Sutlej while taking a selfie on a bridge in Bhukkan Pattan, rescue officials confirmed on Monday.

The incident occurred around 2 a.m. when the individual, attempting to capture a photo on the bridge, lost balance and plunged into the river.

Rescue teams immediately launched a search operation; however, officials said efforts were being hampered by high flood levels and the strong current in the Sutlej.

Rescue authorities further stated that despite repeated warnings, citizens continue to gather on bridges and take photographs, disregarding safety advisories. The search for the missing man is still under way.

It should be noted that after heavy rains and water were released by India, the flood situation in other rivers, including Sutlej, continued. –
