2025 Nobel Peace Prize announcement set for October 10 in Oslo

Oslo, Norway: The 2025 Nobel Peace Prize is scheduled to be announced on Friday, October 10, at 11:00 am local time (09:00 GMT) by the Norwegian Nobel Institute. The announcement will come from the five-member Nobel Committee, appointed by the Norwegian Parliament, which is responsible for selecting and presenting the laureates.
As the world awaits the decision, attention has increasingly turned to the United States, where President Donald Trump has publicly proclaimed himself a worthy recipient. Trump claims credit for ending seven global conflicts and points to a recent peace deal between Hamas and Israel as a major achievement strengthening his case for the prestigious honor.
Historically, four U.S. Presidents have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize:
Theodore Roosevelt (1906): The first American and president to win the prize, Roosevelt was recognized for mediating the end of the Russo-Japanese War and supporting the establishment of the Permanent Court of Arbitration. In his 1910 Nobel lecture, he famously stated that “peace is never the highest good unless it comes as the handmaid of righteousness.”
Woodrow Wilson (1919): Awarded for his pivotal role in founding the League of Nations and promoting peace after World War I. Wilson’s vision for a new global order was outlined in his “Fourteen Points,” aimed at preventing future wars.
Jimmy Carter (2002): Unlike Roosevelt and Wilson, Carter received the prize nearly two decades after his presidency, honoring his extensive humanitarian work, conflict mediation, and advocacy for human rights and democracy.
Barack Obama (2009): The Norwegian Nobel Committee recognized Obama’s efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and global cooperation early in his first term.
President Trump has recently doubled down on his bid for the Nobel Peace Prize, stating, “Obama won the award for nothing, I have ended eight conflicts.” Whether this confidence will translate into the committee’s decision remains to be seen.
The Nobel Peace Prize announcement this Friday is eagerly anticipated as the world watches whether Donald Trump will join the ranks of U.S. presidents honored for their contributions to global peace.
