Karachi: Actress Yashma Gill recently revealed an incident on a drama set where a fellow actress questioned the sincerity of her prayer because she was dressed in Western attire. The episode highlights the challenges media professionals often face regarding their religious practices.

During a recent podcast, Yashma spoke about the unfair scrutiny actor’s face over their faith, challenging the stereotype that people in the entertainment industry lack spirituality or good morals.

“I believe I have become a better person since I started acting, and I continue to grow every day,” Yashma said. She stressed that the glamorous image of actors on screen is temporary, and in reality, many are more religious and committed than others.

She described the demanding work schedules actors endure, often working 12 to 14 hours a day under intense pressure, which she believes strengthens their character.

“During a shoot, I asked the director for a prayer break. I was wearing Western clothes at the time. When I returned, a junior actress said, ‘Beta, you are wearing Western clothes. How can your prayer be accepted?’ I chose not to engage with her, but people must understand that judging the acceptance of someone’s worship is not their place.”

Yashma’s candid account sheds light on the prejudices media professionals face regarding their religious expression and the need for greater respect and understanding within the industry.
