CNS hockey title goes to Pakistan Navy in nail-biting finish

Lahore: Pakistan Navy clinched the title at the 4th Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) All Pakistan Hockey Tournament, edging past Mari Petroleum in a thrilling 4-3 penalty shootout at Lahore’s National Hockey Stadium.

The gripping final ended 2-2 at full time, pushing the match into a tense shootout. Pakistan Navy held their composure under pressure, converting four penalties to Mari Petroleum’s three and lifting the coveted championship trophy.

Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf, the chief guest at the closing ceremony, presented trophies and cash prizes. Pakistan Navy received Rs. 2 million for their victory, while the runner-up, Mari Petroleum, was awarded Rs. 1.5 million for their commendable performance.

In his remarks, Admiral Naveed Ashraf called for a united effort to revive the sport of hockey across Pakistan.

There is a pressing need to promote hockey at the grassroots through structured academies and youth programs,” said Admiral Ashraf. “All stakeholders must collaborate to restore the pride of our national sport. The Pakistan Navy remains committed to supporting its development.”

The event’s success and the high level of competition have been widely seen as a step forward for Pakistani hockey. As interest in the sport rebuilds, tournaments like these play a crucial role in talent discovery, development, and national representation on the global stage.
