Islamabad; The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has launched a rigorous crackdown targeting individuals flaunting extravagant lifestyles on social media platforms while reporting disproportionately low taxable incomes.

In a concerted effort to curb tax evasion, FBR officials have begun closely monitoring more than 100,000 social media accounts nationwide. The move aims to identify those whose visible spending on luxury cars, foreign travel, designer apparel, and high-profile events starkly contrasts with their declared earnings.

An insider from the FBR disclosed that four new tax evasion cases have already been prepared involving social media users from Rawalpindi, Lahore, Bahawalpur, and Islamabad. “In every instance, the disparity between declared income and apparent lifestyle is glaring,” the official remarked.

Notably, the crackdown extends to the son of a well-known politician from South Punjab, whose investigation is nearing completion. Once finalized, these cases will be forwarded to the judiciary for appropriate legal proceedings.

The Intelligence and Investigation Directorate of the FBR is spearheading this nationwide initiative, reportedly building an average of three to four tax evasion cases daily. Authorities anticipate that the initial outcomes of this campaign will surface within the next month.

To strengthen their investigations, the FBR is also collecting financial data from wedding halls, dress designers, and beauty salons to trace expenditures related to major social events. Despite efforts by some users to delete incriminating posts, officials confirm that sufficient data has already been secured.

This campaign represents a significant stride in Pakistan’s broader mission to enhance tax compliance, ensuring that those who project opulent lifestyles contribute fairly to the national revenue.
