NEW YORK: Pakistan has apprised the United Nations of the deteriorating human rights situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), calling out India for its grave violations and continued repression of the Kashmiri people.

Pakistan’s Acting Permanent Representative to the UN, Usman Jadoon, addressed a session of the UN General Assembly’s Committee, exposing the ongoing human rights abuses committed by Indian forces in the occupied valley.

Jadoon emphasized that India continues to commit severe human rights violations in IIOJK, and the failure to hold it accountable raises serious questions about the credibility of the United Nations.

He said India has denied the Kashmiri people their right to self-determination for over seven decades, in blatant disregard of UN Security Council resolutions.

Highlighting the situation since August 5, 2019, when India unilaterally revoked Kashmir’s special status, Jadoon noted that the repression had intensified, with Kashmiri leaders detained, civilians subjected to violence, women humiliated, and children targeted by Indian forces.

He reiterated that India’s unlawful actions and systemic oppression constitute a direct violation of international law and the UN Charter, urging the international community to intervene and ensure accountability.

Jadoon further pointed out that the reports of the UN and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) themselves confirm India’s human rights abuses in the occupied region.

Pakistan reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to supporting the Kashmiri people in their just struggle for self-determination in accordance with UN resolutions.
