KARACHI: The 74rd martyrdom anniversary of Pakistan’s first Prime Minister Shaheed-e-Millat, Khan Liaquat Ali Khan, was observed today (Thursday).
He was born in Karnal‚ East Punjab. Liaquat Ali Khan got education from Aligarh Muslim University, India and Oxford University, United Kingdom.
He then struggled with Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah to get a separate homeland for Muslims of Sub-continent.
Liaquat Ali Khan was tragically assassinated on this day in 1951 during a public meeting at Company Bagh in Rawalpindi. The park was later renamed Liaquat Bagh in his honor.
His martyrdom remains a significant chapter in Pakistan’s history, symbolizing his unwavering commitment to the nation.
Senior central leader of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), Mustafa Kamal, has said that the martyrdom of Shaheed-e-Millat Liaquat Ali Khan was a national tragedy.
In his message on the 74th death anniversary of Nawabzada Liaquat Ali Khan, Kamal paid rich tribute to Pakistan’s first prime minister, describing him as a symbol of honesty, integrity, and sacrifice in the country’s political culture.
He said Liaquat Ali Khan not only played a pivotal role in the Pakistan Movement but also made every possible sacrifice to strengthen the newly independent state.
Mustafa Kamal added that the assassination of the Shaheed-e-Millat caused irreparable damage to Pakistan’s political direction, noting that the nation still deeply feels the absence of his vision and leadership.
He urged the youth to learn from Liaquat Ali Khan’s life and services and to prepare themselves for building a transparent, honest, and stable system in the country.
