Aleppo, Syria: Clashes erupted between the Syrian Army and the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Aleppo city, resulting in the death of one Syrian security force member and injuries to several others, including civilians, according to state media reports.

The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported that the violence took place in the northern neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsoud and al-Ashrafieh, where SDF fighters reportedly launched attacks on Syrian government checkpoints. Mortar shells and heavy machine gun fire were used during the clashes, with SDF snipers allegedly taking positions on rooftops.

A local security source told SANA that the attack resulted in the death of one member of Syria’s internal security forces and injuries to three others, alongside several civilians.

The clashes followed statements from the Syrian Ministry of Defence, which described recent troop movements near Kurdish-led SDF front lines in northeastern Syria as routine redeployments, not new military operations.

However, the SDF denied responsibility for the attacks. SDF spokesperson Farhad Shami said the group did not have forces present in Sheikh Maqsoud or al-Ashrafieh and accused Syrian government factions of trying to enter Kurdish-held districts with tanks. Shami called for an end to what he described as a government siege on Aleppo, warning that the Syrian military’s actions would only worsen conditions for residents.

The truce reportedly called by both sides has yet to hold as tensions remain high in the contested areas of Aleppo city.
