PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi denies BCCI VP’s appeal for Asia Cup trophy

The aftermath of India’s triumph in the Asia Cup 2025 final has been overshadowed by a growing dispute over the presentation of the championship trophy.
Sources disclose that Rajiv Shukla, a senior BCCI official, approached Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman and Asian Cricket Council President Mohsin Naqvi during an ACC gathering to claim the trophy.
However, Naqvi remained steadfast, refusing to hand over the trophy, thereby escalating the diplomatic impasse.
The controversy originated when the Indian squad reportedly declined to receive the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, allegedly influenced by political pressures from the Indian government. This refusal has drawn sharp criticism both within India and from the international cricket community.
Prominent personalities such as Shashi Tharoor and former captain Kapil Dev expressed disappointment, emphasizing the importance of honoring the spirit of the game through mutual respect and sportsmanship, even amidst political tensions.
In a private discussion, Rajiv Shukla pressed for the trophy despite the absence of this issue on the ACC meeting agenda. Mohsin Naqvi responded with an unwavering stance: “If the Indian team desires the trophy, their captain should visit my office to collect it.” This declaration underscored Naqvi’s resolve to uphold the principles governing the event, despite mounting pressure.
The trophy ceremony concluded prematurely when the Indian side refused to accept the award directly from Naqvi, who maintained his position firmly.
Consequently, the trophy was withdrawn by event officials without being presented to the victors. Verified reports confirm the trophy remains in Dubai, with the Indian team unable to claim it despite waiting.
“The Asia Cup trophy continues to be held in Dubai. The Indian team waited, but it was not handed over to them,” officials confirmed.
