President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif emphasized the need for a united, society-wide effort to enhance disaster preparedness and boost climate resilience, marking two decades since the 2005 earthquake.

President Asif Ali Zardari commemorated this day by honoring the bravery of all Pakistanis who have faced the challenges posed by natural disasters. He acknowledged the recent floods that have inflicted severe damage on lives, property, and infrastructure, emphasizing the nation’s collective spirit in overcoming adversity.

“The resilience demonstrated by our people and the coordinated efforts of federal and provincial authorities, alongside various institutions, have been instrumental in rescue and rehabilitation operations,” the President remarked.

He stressed the urgent need for a comprehensive climate policy, enhanced early warning systems, and the integration of modern technology to mitigate the effects of future calamities.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif:

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif echoed the President’s sentiments, highlighting National Resilience Day as a symbol of Pakistan’s unity and strength. Reflecting on the catastrophic 2005 earthquake, he praised the unprecedented solidarity shown by citizens nationwide.

“Pakistan faces significant challenges from climate change, making it imperative to develop robust policies aimed at prevention and damage reduction,” the Prime Minister stated.

He commended the public and government institutions for their cohesive response to the recent floods and underlined the importance of activating early warning mechanisms and leveraging advanced technologies to safeguard the nation.
