Qatar mediates talks between Pakistan and Afghan Taliban in Doha today

Islamabad: Talks between the Afghan Taliban and Pakistan are set to take place today in Doha, the capital of Qatar.

According to a report by the British broadcaster, details released from the Taliban’s official social media accounts confirm that a delegation from the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, led by Defense Minister Mullah Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid, will meet with several Pakistani security and intelligence officials in Doha.

Pakistan has yet to officially release any details about the talks.

Earlier, Pakistan’s state media confirmed that negotiations are scheduled to ease recent tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

Security sources confirmed to PTV Digital that talks are indeed planned between the two sides, although they refrained from disclosing the exact time and location.

Prior to this, Tolo News also reported citing sources that, talks between Pakistan and Afghanistan are expected to be held in Doha.

It is worth noting that during a recent federal cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that Qatar had offered to mediate between Pakistan and Afghanistan to help resolve the ongoing border tensions. He welcomed Qatar’s serious commitment to facilitate dialogue between both parties.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar received a message from Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi, in which Qatar praised Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting regional peace and stability.

Deputy PM Dar expressed gratitude for Qatar’s continued support and its positive role in promoting peace both in the region and globally.

It is important to mention that the temporary ceasefire agreement between Pakistan and Afghanistan is set to expire today at 6 PM.
