KARACHI: A distribution box installed for Safe City Project cameras near Bilawal House has been stolen, leading to the suspension of camera operations in the area.

Director General of the Safe City Project, Asif Ijaz Sheikh, confirmed the incident, stating that the distribution box (DB box) connected to the cameras near Bilawal House Chowrangi was stolen, after which the cameras were taken down from the poles.

He said the stolen equipment contained items worth hundreds of thousands of rupees, adding that an inquiry is underway to determine why the system alarm did not activate during the theft.

The incident comes at a time when Karachi’s Safe City Project has introduced a faceless e-ticketing system to issue electronic challans to traffic violators.

The theft of the distribution box from one of the city’s busiest intersections near Bilawal House has raised serious concerns about the security of the Safe City infrastructure.
