PM Shehbaz orders probe into Islamabad suicide blast
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif issued a strong condemnation of the attack, describing it as a terrorist act carried out by what he called “Fitna al-Khawarij” and accusing Indian-backed proxies and militants operating from Afghan territory of responsibility.
In a statement, the prime minister expressed condolences to the families of the deceased, prayed for the speedy recovery of the wounded and said the government would ensure those responsible would be brought to justice.
Shehbaz directed federal and local authorities to provide the best possible medical care to the injured and ordered a full investigation into the incident to identify and punish the perpetrators.
He added that the nation stood in solidarity with the victims and reiterated a warning against foreign-sponsored efforts to destabilise Pakistan.
Earlier, a suicide bomber struck near the district court complex in the G-11 sector of Islamabad on Tuesday, killing at least 12 people and injuring dozens, the government said.
Authorities said the explosion occurred close to the court entrance and struck a police vehicle, amid chaotic scenes at the site.
Security officials said investigations were under way and that no group had immediately claimed responsibility.
The blast came amid reports of related militant activity in other areas, including a separate attack near Wana that government officials linked to the same networks.
Authorities have tightened security around sensitive sites in the capital while emergency services continue rescue and treatment efforts.
