Punjab approves comprehensive security plan for cricket series
LAHORE: The Punjab Home Department has approved an extensive security strategy for the Pakistan–Sri Lanka–Zimbabwe cricket series, set to be held in Lahore and Rawalpindi from November 11 to 27, 2025.
According to a spokesperson for the Home Department, Punjab has requisitioned the services of the Pakistan Army, Rangers and aviation units to assist the police in ensuring foolproof security during the event.
For Lahore, one company each of the Pakistan Army and Rangers has been requested, while Rawalpindi will be reinforced with three companies each of the Army and Rangers.
In addition, Army Aviation helicopters have also been called in to provide aerial support in Lahore.
The deployment of Army and Rangers personnel will be carried out under Article 245 of the Constitution and the Pakistan Rangers Ordinance 1959.
According to spokesperson, the security personnel will remain on duty from November 8 to November 30,2025 covering the matches, team accommodations and travel routes.
The Punjab Home Department has formally written to the Federal Ministry of Interior seeking approval for the deployment. All concerned institutions have been directed to finalise team security and related arrangements promptly, spokesperson added.
