The world’s largest handmade carpet has been manufactured in Iran.

On the occasion of the inauguration of the International Carpet Festival in Tabriz, President of Iran Hassan Rouhani presented the world’s largest handmade carpet.

According to local media, 70 different colors were used for 600 square meters of carpet, weighing three tons. Carpet makers said it took six years to complete the carpet.

The carpet were presented for the August 4 fair at the ongoing festival in Tabriz the capital city of East Azarbaijan Province in North West of Iran.

Hand-made rugs Manufacturers from Isfahan, Gilan, Qom, Tehran and eastern and western Azerbaijan provinces as well as many foreign countries showcased their innovative products.

Persian carpets and rugs of various types were woven in parallel by nomadic tribes, in village and town workshops, and by royal court manufactories alike.

As such, they represent different, simultaneous lines of tradition, and reflect the history of Iran and its various peoples.

The carpets woven in the Safavid court manufactories of Isfahan during the sixteenth century are famous for their elaborate colours and artistical design, and are treasured in museums and private collections all over the world today.

Their patterns and designs have set an artistic tradition for court manufactories which was kept alive during the entire duration of the Persian Empire up to the last royal dynasty of Iran.
