Romessa Khan’s artwork on display
Titled Of Stars and Dust, Romessa Khan’s exhibition opened its doors for Karachi’s art enthusiasts on October 27th. Romessa’s latest artwork explores the delicate pieces that emerge as an emotional and conceptual response to the fleeting nature of existence. In her own words, her drawings attempts to bridge “permanence with the impermanence in an urge to investigate the ongoing cyclic pattern of creation, persistence and destruction.” The Lahore-based artist’s mysterious drawings represent a sense of change: they are dynamic and evolving. Of Stars and Dust signifies the artist’s retelling of a broader story of the cyclical nature of time, decay and transience. The pieces, according to Romessa, occupy “a void between the living and the dead, the past and the present”, existing in an undulating universe. The exhibition will continue till November 5.
An Evening Soiree at Artchowk Gallery
An Evening Soiree, a two person show held by artists Adeen Habib and Zara Maryam Khan, is currently on display at Artchowk Gallery. Curated by Laila Premjee, the work serves as an ode to, and a celebration of, Karachi and all its “magnetic energy and mayhem.” Zara is a textile designer and a graduate of the University of Arts, London. Her work celebrates the rich history of South Asia by adorning her characters in “lush layers of colour, bold contrasting patterns and gilded jewellery.” The people in her paintings are exaggerated, comical and cheerful. Adeen is also a textile designer, and her work is a parody-like take on the colloquial term “burger”, which she feels has been used to describe her over the years. Adeen wishes to uses the exhibit and her artwork to “make fun” of herself and her “first world issues.” The show is running from October 27th to November 5th.
