Drumming Ceremonies to take place at City Halls on Earth Day
Drumming Ceremonies at City Halls on Earth Day, Saturday, April 22nd, 2023, in collaboration and support of Indigenous Peoples around the world.
A Drawdown Markham and the Global Unity Network (#UnityNet) Feature Event#UnityNet UNDRIP Day will take place on Earth Day, Saturday, April 22, 2023.
A Drumming Ceremony at City Halls throughout the Greater Toronto Area (#GTA), Ontario, Canada, and Turtle Island (North America) – in collaboration with other Local Communities worldwide.
These local drumming ceremonies at City Halls are intended to be held in #solidarity with Indigenous peoples in all of our Greater Tkaronto Bioregion (#GTB) watersheds.
The GTB includes all watersheds east of the Niagara Escarpment and south of the Oak Ridges Moraine that drain into Lake Ontario, the lowest and last of the North American Great Lakes in southern Ontario, Canada, and North America (Turtle Island).
At this event, they will begin working with local students and teachers from various local schools to encourage the young people from these schools to Announce, Plan, and Establish their own Youth Peace Gardens all across the Greater Tkaronto Bioregion – beginning with their own schools, but also in and on other Public and Private properties across each of our own local communities and watersheds.
Please keep in mind that this will be a “hybrid” event, with a virtual #Broadcast on Social Media (Zoom and Facebook, at the very least) from our Markham location.
Anyone with internet access can join their celebrations from anywhere in the world simply by signing up and participating virtually.

Niagara Escarpment
The Niagara Escarpment is a long escarpment, or cuesta, that runs primarily east-west from New York through Ontario, Michigan, Wisconsin, and into Illinois. The escarpment is best known as the cliff over which the Niagara River plunges at the aptly named Niagara Falls.
Oak Ridges Moraine
The Oak Ridges Moraine is an important landform in southern Ontario. An ecologically significant geological landform in south-central Ontario, Canada’s Mixedwood Plains. The moraine spans 1,900 square kilometres between Caledon and Rice Lake, near Peterborough.
Lake Ontario
Lake Ontario is the only Great Lake that does not border the state of Michigan and is located between Lake Erie and the St. Lawrence River.
It has many distinct geographical landscapes, the most notable of which is Niagara Falls. Lake Ontario is the Great Lakes’ easternmost and smallest in surface area (18,960 km2 ).
It has a drainage area of 60,030 km2, an elevation of 75 metres, a mean depth of 86 metres (maximum depth 244 metres), a length of 311 kilometres, and a width of 85 kilometres.
It is bordered by Ontario (Canada) on the north and New York on the south (USA). It takes about 6 years for water to flow from Lake Ontario to the St. Lawrence River.
Great Lakes
The Great Lakes, also known as the Great Lakes of North America, are the largest group in a chain of large lakes that runs along the southern edge of the Canadian Shield, including Winnipeg, Athabasca, Great Slave, and Great Bear.
The Great Lakes are a chain of large interconnected freshwater lakes in North America’s mid-east that connect to the Atlantic Ocean via the Saint Lawrence River. Superior, Michigan, Huron, Erie, and Ontario are the five lakes.
They are a major natural feature of the continent and the planet. The Great Lakes are one of the world’s largest freshwater systems, accounting for 20% of the world’s surface freshwater.
Greater Tkaronto Bioregion (map)
The GTB is “bounded on the west by the Niagara Escarpment, on the north and east by the Oak Ridges Moraine, and on the south by Lake Ontario” (Regeneration report, former Toronto Mayor and MP The Honourable David Crombie, 1992).
