Atmosphere of fear and intimidation prevails in IoK says Maleeha Lodhi

Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Maleeha Lodhi urged the top UN peacekeeping official to take steps to enhance UNMOGIP’s monitoring along the LoC as Indian troops have been repeatedly violating it.

Maleeha Lodhi made a request during a meeting with Acting Under-Secretary-General of the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations Khalid Khairi in New York.

She said midnight raids by Indian forces have been intensified and an atmosphere of fear and intimidation prevails.

Yesterday she briefed the UNGA president in detail about the the situation in Indian occupied Kashmir (IoK) where the continuing curfew and lock down ‘is exacerbating the suffering of the Kashmiri people’.

Earlier this week she also briefed President of the UN Security Council Joanna Wronecka regarding Pakistan’s stand on Indian action and its impact on the region’s peace.

She asked the Security Council to ensure full compliance of its own resolutions, it is the responsibility to take actions against the Indian atrocities in Kashmir.

Maleeha Lodhi further cleared during the meeting that, Pakistan will always continue its political and diplomatic support for Kashmiris.

India has abolished Article 370 of the Constitution under which special status for the Indian occupied Kashmir has been revoked.

Section 144 is imposed in the occupied valley and the occupation administration has also arrested the Kashmiri leadership. The Internet and telephone services are also suspended.
