Sindh writes to suspend cellular services on 9, 10 Muharram

Sindh Home Department has written a letter to the Interior Ministry for suspending mobile phone service on 9 and 10 Muharram al-Haram on the procession routes in Sindh, including Karachi.

According to the details, the Sindh government recommended the Ministry of Interior for suspension of mobile services on 9th and 10th of Muharram owing to the Muharram-ul-Haram security concerns, and said that mobile service should be suspended along the routes of mourning processions.

Strict security arrangements are being made due to Muharram al-Haram and Sindh government has also banned pillion riding of motorcycle on 8, 9 and 10 of Muharram al-Haram.

Sindh home secretary has written to Federal interior ministry and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) about suspension of the mobile phone services during mourning processions of Muharramul Haram as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order and avoid any incident of sabotage or terrorism.

Prior, IG Sindh Dr Kaleem Imam has briefed chief minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali shah about the foolproof security arrangements during majalis and processions of Muharramul Haram.

While giving the briefing IG Sindh said that the movement of the procession would be monitored through CCTV cameras from Command & Control Center and there would also be moving CCTVs vans to cover the procession.

The meeting was told that from Muharram 1 to 10 there would be 6028 majalis in the city which would which would be guarded by 1073 policemen.

He said that in case of any incident, Isolation of Scene team, team for arresting miscreants/accused and evacuation teams have been formed.

The chief minister approved ban on pillion ridding from the night of 8th Moharram. He directed the IG police start snap checking all over Sindh.
