Muslim student Fatima Latif, who was studying in a first year of MA humanities and development studies (integrated), was found hanging in her hostel room at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras.

The 19-year-old topper Muslim Girl Student has committed suicide and the suicide note points to discrimination by ‘Brahmin’ Professor.

Fatima Latif committed suicide on 9th of November Saturday morning, her twin sister Aisha Lateef filed a complaint to a local police station in Kotturpuram.

Her parents also submitted a petition to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and sought the state government’s intervention in Tamil Nadu police’s investigation of the case.

While talking to Indian news channel Fatima’s father said “My daughter faced casteist and religious discrimination from her faculties. Earlier she said that her name (Muslim name) itself is a problem there.”

He further said that during the investigation, police have recovered a suicide note from Fatima’s room and she had blamed some teachers and students for torture and harassment in the note.

Not even Muslims but Hindu Dalits are subject to grave discrimination in India.

Earlier on September two Dalit children were beaten to death by two persons for defecating on a street Madhya Pradesh India.

On July this year 3rd-year Dalit student of Law at Ghaziabad-based Inmantec Institute committed suicide after being harassed by his upper caste class fellow.

Around 16 percent of India’s population stems from untouchable casts, also called Dalits. These have been considered so unclean that they are under the four castes in India.

In the past couple of years, there has been a series of violent attacks on minorities, especially Muslims and Dallits are subjected to huge discrimination by Hindutva ideology.
