PNS pays tribute to Hangor to commemorate Khukri destruction

The Pakistan Navy paid tribute to PNS/M submarine, Hangor, which has destroyed the Blackwood class Indian Navy warship, Khukri, near the Indian coast during the 1971 Indo-Pakistan war.

Director General Public Relation (DGPR) Navy Rear Admiral M Arshid Javed, posted a video on Twitter and wrote “Pakistan navy pays tribute to Submarine Hangor which destroyed indian warship Kukri.”

PNS/M HANGOR Pakistan Navy Daphné-class Submarine was the first of the Daphne type submarines acquired by Pakistan Navy from France and it was a promising unit of Pakistan Fleet for more than 30 years and also participated in 1971 war and has destroyed Indian warship Khukri.

The submarine was equipped with variety of torpedoes and sub-surface launch missiles.

Submarine Hangor also known as “Shark” was put on display at the Pakistan Maritime Museum in December 2007.

On the other hand Indian Navy warship Khukri was a British Type 14 (Blackwood-class) frigate of the Indian Navy and was sunk off the coast of Diu, Gujarat, India by the Pakistani submarine Hangor on 9 December 1971 during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971.

INS  Khukri was the first warship sunk in action by a submarine since the Korean War.
