A Markhor,which is  regarded as the national animal of Pakistan, known for its rareness and beautiful coiled horns, killed after paying 83500 dollars in Gilgit.

Social media stormed with rage over the report of Spanish hunter killed a markhor after paying after paying 83500 dollars worth of hunting fee.

Earlier on December 12, An Italian citizen hunted the first Markhor of the season, department of Wildlife and forestry of the region told.

According to the Gilgit-Baltistan wildlife department, Carlo Pasco successfully hunted a flared-horned markhor from the conservation area.

The hunter had paid 85,000 US dollars as permit fee for the hunting.

The Wildlife department claims that 80% of the amount paid by hunters given to the local community to invest in themselves and the conversation of these animals.

The markhor’s a large Capra species native to Central Asia, Karakoram and the Himalayas.

Its listed on the IUCN Red List as Near Threatened since 2015.

Earlier in March 2019.  American citizen hunted a markhor during the hunting season in Gilgit-Baltistan’s Astore district.

He hunted the wild goat at Doyan valley.

The hunter paid a Rs12.5 million as permit fee for hunting of the rare wildlife species in the region.

Furthermore In February, a US hunter paid $110,000 to hunt Pakistan’s national animal in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Bryan Kinsel Harlan hunted the Astore markhor in Sassi-Haramosh. He is the highest fee payer for the hunt.

The government auctioned four permits to hunt markhors last year.

However Local chairman Hamid Hussain said that the money earned from the hunt spent on development of the area.
