Provincial government of Baluchistan has reopened a 200 year old historic Hindu Temple at Babu Mohalla, 330 km from Quetta in Zhob district.

An interfaith harmoy’s symbolic ribbon was cut by special guest at the ceremony, Imam of central Jamia Masjid of city, Molana Allahdad Kakar.

Deputy commissioner Roozab Tahima Saleem and local leaders of the Jamaat-e-Islami, Pashtoonkhwa Map and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf,  attended the ceremony.

While addressing the gathering, deputy commissioner said, “Today is an important day in the history of Balochistan. This is an example of religious harmony.”

“The world should see how deeply our scholars have embraced the minority community,” he added.

Hindus of Zhob have welcomed the development and also expressed contentment on it.

The chairman of the committee for the minority community in Zhob Saleem Jan said “It’s a matter of great pleasure to have been able to visit this temple and we are thankful to the district administration and Baluchistan’s high court chief justice Jamal Mandokhel for meeting our demand.”

Saleem Jan also urged the government to provide funds to renovate the temple.

After the reopening of the temple, Hindus will not only be able to perform rituals at this temple but visitors from far away will also be able to attend them.

The temple in Babu Mohalla is nearly 200 years old and was built by cutting a mountain. Hindus inhabited the area for centuries but most of them migrated to India in 1947 and about 50 Hindu families live here now.
