Mureed Abbas Murder Case: Adil Zaman approaches SHC for the bail

Adil Zaman, the brother of prime suspect in BOL News Anchorperson Mureed Abbas murder case on Monday approached the Sindh High Court (SHC) for the bail.

On July 9, 2019, Atif gunned down BOL News Anchor Mureed Abbas and Khizar Hayat over a monetary dispute in Defence Housing Authority (DHA).

Moreover, the trial court had rejected Adil Zaman’s bail plea.

The SHC has served notices to the respondents including the prosecutor general Sindh to submit reply till February 13.

He, later, attempted suicide.

An anti-terrorism court had on Sept 30 dropped terrorism charges in the case and had sent the case back to a session’s court to conduct trial of accused Atif Zaman on charges of killing his two business partners.

Earlier, Additional Inspector General (AIG) Karachi Ghulam Nabi Memon had said that Mureed Abbas’ family was receiving threats.

Speaking to media, he had said directives have issued for provision of protection to the family of the deceased anchorperson.

The Karachi police chief said the police received a complaint about Mureed Abbas’ family receiving threats.

Later then, directions were issued for provision of necessary security to the family.

Atif Zaman also sought pardon from Mureed Abbas’ wife Zara Abbas while appearing before the court.

The hearing of the case held at a local court in the Judicial Complex amid tight security in Karachi.

“I’m sorry”, Atif Zaman said to Zara Abbas, wife of deceased anchorperson Mureed Abbas, when he came face to face with her in the Judicial complex.

“Not me, neither Almighty Allah will grant you pardon”, she replied to Atif Zaman’s apology.

During the hearing, the honourable court showed resentment over non-presence of the lawyers of the accused named in the case.

As it failed to indict them on the third continuous court appearance.
