Pakistan and Malaysia agrees to build strong economic ties

Pakistan and Malaysia have agreed to build a strong economic partnership and work together on issues affecting the Muslim Ummah.

The understanding came at talks between Prime Minister Imran Khan and Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad at Putrajaya.

Pakistan and Malaysia agreed for regular discussions to strengthen the trade and investment relations by removing barriers in key areas. Both the sides also expressed commitment to build stronger ties in the areas of defense, law enfrocement, tourism and education.

Later addressing a joint news conference along with the Malaysian counterpart, Prime Minister Imran Khan thanked Mahathir Mohamad for the standing by Pakistan on Kashmir dispute and speaking against the injustices being perpetrated by Indian forces in occupied Kashmir.

Earlier Prime Minister Imran Khan held delegation-level talks with his Malaysian counterpart Mahathir Mohamad at Putrajaya.

Premier was accorded warm welcome upon arrival at the Prime Minister Office.

Both the sides are expected to sign a number of important agreements and MoUs.

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Minister for Planning Asad Umar, Adviser on Commerce Abdul Razzak Dawood and Foreign Secretary Sohail Mahmood accompanied the prime minister.

Imran Khan said unfortunately a very radical and extremist government has taken over India which has put the Kashmiri people in an open prison.

This is the premier’s second visit to Malaysia since assuming office in August 2018. Earlier, he visited Malaysia on November 20-21, 2018.

PM Mohamad visited Pakistan on March 21-23, 2019, and was the chief guest at the Pakistan Day Parade.

The two prime ministers also met on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly session in New York in September 2019.

In line with the vision of leadership of the two countries, bilateral ties have deepened in recent years, leading to closer cooperation in the sphere of trade, investment, industry, defence, education and in various international forums.

During his various interactions, PM Imran will share his vision about Pakistan and underline its positive contribution to regional and international peace, and security.

The prime minister will also highlight the dire human rights and humanitarian situation in the Indian occupied Kashmir, emphasize the importance of averting risks to regional peace and stability posed by Indian belligerence, and underscore the importance of peaceful resolution of Jammu and Kashmir dispute.
