President cuts ribbon on Ruth Pfau Medical College Karachi

President of Pakistan Dr. Arif Alvi has inaugurated the Fazaia Ruth Pfau Medical College (FRPMC) in Karachi.

On the occasion, the President was accompanied by Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force (PAF).

Dr Ruth Pfau also known as “Pakistan’s Mother Teresa” is the head of the Marie Adelaide Leprosy Centre in Karachi and devoted more than 55 years of her life to fighting leprosy in Pakistan.

Dr. Rathfau was born on September 9, 1929 in the city of Leipzig, Germany. Dr. Rath Pfau came to Pakistan in 1960 and dedicated her entire life to leprosy patients. She provided free services to leprosy patients.

In 1996, the World Health Organization included Pakistan as a leprosy control country. Dr. Pfau played the most important role in bringing this honor to Pakistan.

On August 10, 2017, Dr. Rath Fau, who dedicated her life to leprosy patients, died in Karachi. She had been dealing with several health issues due to her advanced age, including kidney and heart disease.

Pakistan honored Dr Ruth Pfau with an array of awards including the Hilal-i-Imtiaz, Nishan-i-Quaid-i-Azam, Hilal-i-Pakistan, and the Sitara-i-Quaid-i-Azam.
