KARACHI: Edhi Foundation chief Faisal Edhi presented a check of Rs 31.5 million to Iranian consulate for coronavirus prevention.

Check will be used to prevent coronavirus outbreak in Iran via Iranian Red Crescent.

The Iranian health ministry reported that 54 people had died after contracting coronavirus in the past 24 hours, the highest single-day toll since the start of the outbreak in February.

Total number of death has reached  to 291, health ministry spokesman Kianoush Jahanpour said in a televised conference.

Earlier, Iran’s former ambassador to Vatican Hadi Khosrowshahi died after battling the coronavirus in Iran.

Iran’s local news agency reported that Hadi Khosrowshahi, 81, has died in the hospital in Iran.

On the other hand, Iran’s vice president also became a victim of coronavirus, the health minister confirmed the news.

Local news reported yesterday that Vice president Masoumeh Ebtekar was diagnosed positive with the disease.

Ebtekar was placed under Quarantine.

Note that there are 400 cases of the virus in the country whereas 26 people have lost their lives.

Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Khamenei explained in a message to medical staff on Sunday that the struggle to treat the virus a “difficult and momentous task”.

Note that educational and cultural institutions have been shut down in the country.

Officials in Tehran have canceled Friday prayers today due to coronavirus outbreak. There are around 100 cases of coronavirus in Iran.

The vice president for women and family affairs Masoumeh Ebtekar is also a patient of contagious coronavirus.

According to Iran’s local news agency, the Health Ministry spokesman Kianoush Jahanpour informed that all types of congregation must be canceled till further notification.

He also informed that around 15 medical labs will be started within next week to test coronavirus.

Note that 19 people have died due to deadly disease in Iran, according to the latest updates.

Around 2,700 people have died in China and there are more than 75,000 patients.

World health organization head Dr Tedros Ghebreyesus warns that the outbreak has reached ‘decisive point’ and has ‘pandemic potential’.
