Judicial remand of Ahad Cheema for 14 days in corruption case

Accountability Court on Thursday extended judicial remand of Lahore Development Authority DG Ahad Cheema for 14 days.

As per details, Lahore court extended the judicial remand of Ahad Cheema in assets beyond means case.

A witness testified in the court on the matter while the court ordered more witnesses to be brought forth for more testimonies.

Till date, nine witnesses have come forth and given their testimonies in the case.

Accountability judge Amjad Nazir Chaudhry presided over the proceedings of the case.

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has maintained that the principal accused Ahad Cheema has accumulated unprecedented wealth inside and outside the country.

The anti-graft watchdog has further claimed that Cheema has benami properties on his family’s name while an estimated value of Cheema’s wealth has been calculated to be around 600 million rupees.

The accountability court adjourned proceedings till March 26 while extending Cheema’s judicial remand by 14 days.

The properties owned by the LDA former DG allegedly include several plots in various housing schemes in Lahore and Islamabad, agricultural land, flats and houses, according to the NAB.

The properties mostly registered in names of his mother, wife and other relatives.

Cheema arrested on charges of misusing his authority by awarding Ashiana Housing Project contract worth Rs14 billion to Lahore Casa Developers that was ineligible for the contract.

Earlier in January 2020 accountability court here extended judicial remand of Lahore Development Authority (LDA) former Director General Ahad Cheema for 14 days.

The statement of a prosecution witness was recorded in the corruption case against Ahad Cheema.
