Nation celebrates Pakistan Day under quarantine with simplicity amid the outbreak of deadly coronavirus as all public gatherings are banned to curb its spread.

This day is observed to commemorate the message of Lahore Resolution on this day in 1940, under which the Muslims of the sub-continent set the agenda of achieving a separate homeland.

Military parade and other public gatherings postponed across Pakistan as a precautionary measure, however, the state radio and television will broadcast special programs and media houses will highlight the importance of Pakistan Day.

History

The day celebrates the adoption of Pakistan resolution by Muslim League at the Minar-e-Pakistan that called for establishing an independent federation comprising provinces with Muslim majority located in north-western and north-eastern region of British controlled territories in India (excluding autonomous princely States) on 23 March 1940.

The Muslim League held its annual session at Minto Park in Lahore, Punjab, that lasted from 22 to 24 March 1940.

During this event, Muslim League led by Muhammad Ali Jinnah and other Founding Fathers narrated events regarding the differences between Hindus and Muslims, and introduced the historical resolution that cemented the formation of a nation-state in South Asia as Pakistan.

On this day a resolution was passed saying that Muslims in India wanted independence and separate homeland and they were persecuted in India.

Since then, the Pakistan Day is celebrated annually throughout the country as a public holiday.
