Sharjeel Memon, Pakistan Peoples Party leader on Thursday granted interim bail in Roshan Sindh program corruption case.

As per details, Islamabad High Court (IHC) approved the bail of accused Sharjeel Memon.

Deputy Prosecutor General NAB Sardar Muzaffar Abbasi told the two-member division bench under Chief Justice IHC Justice Athar Minallah that initial inquiry against the accused started on January 6, 2016 in Karachi.

A fresh inquiry ordered on February 4, 2019 and in reply to a letter asking for the record, he failed to provide the required record with NAB’s questionnaire, he added.

During the hearing, Deputy Prosecutor General of the NAB Sardar Muzaffar Abbasi said that bureau had corroborative evidence related to the allegations, that he misused his official position.

He said that contractor Wudud Engineering paid Rs 9 crore as kickbacks out of which Rs 77 lacs paid to Sharjeel Memon.

The Chief Justice pointed out deficiencies in NAB’s prosecution and remarked that NAB had been unable to prosecute corrupt individuals owing to faulty practices and it should focus on convicting criminals instead of merely arresting them.

The court remarked that If you have enough material against Sharjeel Memon, then you should file a reference against them in the accountability court, present them there and get maximum punishment from the trial court in light of these evidences. ‘

The court then confirmed Sharjeel Memon’s interim bail against previously submitted surety bonds worth Rs 1 Million.

Sharjeel Memon was in jail from October 25, 2017 to June 25, 2019.
