Prime Minister Imran Khan called for a Global Initiative on Debt Relief to deal with coronavirus pandemic.

Prime Minister Imran Khan said in a message broadcast to the international community that coronavirus pandemic has given birth to unprecedented health and economic challenges. He feared that the global slump might be worse than depression.

Apart from that, PM Imran Khan insisted the world leaders head towards the creation of measures to help developing countries fight against COVID-19.

While talking about the financial crisis, PM Imran Khan suggested that the developing countries should be granted space and financial relief through debt relief and other measures to fight against the economic crisis.

Prime Minister Imran Khan urged that without strong, well-planned, and coordinated global response, the pandemic cannot be controlled.

The Premier has proposed to the UN General Secretary to coordinate with him in working upon the objectives for a coordinated response.

He also expressed his concern that the socio-economic impacts of the pandemic would be adverse in developing countries.

In the video message, PM Imran Khan explained that his government has presented a stimulus package worth 8 billion US Dollars to aid the poor.

Sources said that the PM will be coordinating with Heads of State from several countries such as indebted poor countries heads of International Organizations and others concerned to work with him in this initiative.

He has also entrusted the Foreign Minister and the Adviser on Finance to approach to their respective members to work on global initiative.

According to the details, Stake holders will appear together in this global initiative at one forum to get mutual health and economic response. As per this initiative, concerned will work on the urgent debt relief to the developing countries at their request.
