MNA Munir Khan Orakzai passes away

Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Munir Khan Orakzai, who tested positive for coronavirus last month, passed away on Tuesday.

According to Irfanullah, nephew of  Munir Khan Orakzai, the family got to know that the MMA lawmaker had passed away after he did not wake up for the Fajr prayers and was pronounced dead by doctors after being taken to the civil hospital in Tal.

Irfanullah stated that Orakzai’s funeral will be held today at 3 pm in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kurram district.

MNA Munir Khan Orakzai was born on 6 September 1959 at Kurram. He had been a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan since August 2018.

Previously, he was a member of the National Assembly from 2002 to 2013. He also served as the Parliamentary Leader of FATA between 2002 and 2013.

Mr. Orakzai received the Nishan-e-Imtiaz – the highest civilian honor awarded in Pakistan – in 2011.

He was a member of the National Security Committee as well Kashmir Committee and remained a member of the 18th Amendment Committee.

Munir Khan Orakzai was a member of the Housing and works committee as well as the Water and Resources committee.

His areas of legislative interest included foreign affairs, education, legislative training, and parliamentary reform.

Mr. Orakzai had a BA from Government Degree College, Parachinar, as well as an MA in Islamic Studies from Peshawar University.

Mr. Orakzai was a candidate for the post of KPK Governor twice but rejected by establishment each time.

He received the Nishan-e-Imtiaz in 2011.

Mr. Orakzai was Jamiat Ulema-e Islam (F) (JUI-F) candidate for the seat of the National Assembly from Constituency NA-38 (Tribal Area-III) in the 2013 Pakistani general election.
