Karachi residents suffer with frequent power cuts

As soon as Karachi witnessed rainfall on Thursday night, the residents of the city suffered frequent power outages till early hours of Friday.

According to the details, Areas that endured power failures included North Nazimabad, North Karachi, Buffer Zone, Liaquatabad, Orangi Town, Gulbahar, Korangi, Malir, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, and Garden West.

Many of the Karachiities said that they made numerous telephonic complaints but received no response.

Earlier on Thursday Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Justice (Retd) Javed Iqbal took notice of public complaints and media reports and ordered an inquiry against K Electric.

According to a statement issued by NAB, K Electric is accused of overbilling billions of rupees with unannounced long load shedding.

The statement further said that according to the agreement reached with the government of Pakistan, K Electric had to invest in power generation. K Electric is also accused of allegedly not fully abiding by the agreement.

The Chairman NAB directed NAB Karachi to obtain the relevant documents and investment details including a copy of the agreement from K Electric while he also directed NAB Karachi to complete the inquiry against K Electric within 3 months.

Chairman National Accountability Bureau said that NAB always believes in performing its duties in accordance with the law, K Electric will not be allowed to allegedly embezzle billions of rupees in terms of overbilling.

The NAB chairman said that NAB believes in impartial accountability and will not allow unannounced long load shedding and non-compliance with the agreement.
